“An Orchestra characterized by constant innovation and research”
Mariafrancesca Latella - Clarinet
Mariafrancesca Latella is a clarinet player. She saw the local fanfare in her hometown and was amazed by the sounds and by the clarinets numerously represented in the fanfare. She joined the Orchestra Mozart in 2006. It was a fundamental experience, as she really understood what it meant to play together. Abbado has left an important heritage to the musicians of the orchestra and she feels that this heritage still resonates in each and every one of them.
One of her fondest memories is linked to a concert in which she had to play the first note; Claudio Abbado wanted the concert to begin in total darkness with just a tiny light on him. The Maestro warned Mariafrancesca “You’ll start when there’ll be pitch dark (buio-buio in Italian). Buio-buio is also a wine from Sardinia, have you ever tasted it? Well, when you see this “wine” in the concert hall, you start”. And she still laughs at remembering him, standing on the podium, smiling at her at thinking about the Buio-buio.
Mariafrancesca Latella graduated in july 2000 at Conservatorio di Musica “Stanislao Giacomantonio” in Cosenza, Italy, under Antonio Bifano and continued her studies at the “Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia” in Rome and “Accademia Filarmonica” in Bologna with Alessandro Carbonare. She also had masterclasses with Richard Stolzmann, Johannes Peitz, Fabrizio Meloni, Vincenzo Mariozzi, Piero Vincenti, Paolo Beltramini and Gino Mazzocchitti.
She played as a member of the European Union Youth Orchestra and the Schleswig Holstein Festival Orchestra under the baton of B. Haitink, C. Eschenbach, H. Blomstedt, S. Bychkov, Sir Colin Davis, Sir John Eliot Gardiner, among others. She has obtained various prizes in international competitions such as Rino Viani in Modena, Castrocaro Terme (Forlì), A. Ponchielli in Cremona.
She performed with many orchestras including the Orchestra Haydn di Bolzano e Trento, Orchestra della Fondazione Arturo Toscanini di Parma, Orchestra Sinfonica del Teatro Carlo Felice di Genova, Orchestra dell'Arena di Verona, Orchestra Leonore di Pistoia, Orchestra del Teatro dell' Opera di Roma and Mahler Chamber Orchestra. She's currently performing with Ensemble Les Dissonances in Paris, Orchestra Regionale Toscana ORT in Florence, Orchestra Santa Cecilia di Roma and with Lucerne Festival Orchestra invited personally by Claudio Abbado since 2012.
Since 2006 she has been a member of the Orchestra Mozart in Bologna.
