As a musician and cultural entrepreneur, Swiss musician Etienne Abelin is interested in exploring new directions and share the results with other people - be it as a performer on stage, by supporting new talents or in creating and producing international cultural projects.
Besides of enthusiastically playing with the Orchestra Mozart Bologna, Etienne is a member of the Lucerne Festival Orchestra, also conducted by Claudio Abbado. Since 2008, he is a music curator at the Festspielhaus St.Pölten, lower Austria, and he is the Artist in Residence of the current season 2009/2010. As such, he will lead a workshop of Russian Rroma choir music with Sasha and Vadim Kolpakov and lead a Strings Exchange, where young Austrian musicians work with young Southafrican musicians in Hout Bay, a township of Capetown.
In 2007 he co-created and produced A Clear View of Heaven, a music theatre piece for Lucerne Festival - a reflection on restoration, decay and re-imagination in art and music and in 2008 he co-created and produced Rhythm'n'Foot 08, a combination of music and live soccer at the EURO 08.
Etienne is in the process of becoming a conductor and currently pursues an Executive MBA in General Management at the University St. Gallen, Switzerland.
