The 2024 concerts and tournées of the Orchestra Mozart

The Accademia Filarmonica di Bologna is pleased to present the 2024 program of its symphonic concert season: Orchestra Mozart, conducted by Maestro Daniele Gatti, will celebrate its 20th anniversary by performing in many of the greatest theaters, both in Italy and abroad.

Born in Bologna in 2004 as a special project of the Accademia Filarmonica starting from an idea conceived by Carlo Maria Badini and Fabio Roversi Monaco, Orchestra Mozart is an outstanding international institution and a unique project in Italy. Claudio Abbado, its founder and art director for ten years, forged its identity by bringing together great soloists and first chairs of renowned orchestras with young talented musicians from all over the world, promoting opportunities for artists of different generations to meet and exchange knowledge and experience. 2024 bears a special meaning, not only because it marks the 20th anniversary of the Orchestra’s birth, but also because it commemorates the 10th anniversary of the passing of its outstanding first conductor.

To celebrate this important milestone, besides including the Soloists of Orchestra Mozart in the chamber music concert season, Accademia Filarmonica organized an Orchestra Mozartthree-legged tour throughout the year. It will start in Switzerland and continue in Italy, coming to Ferrara, Milan, and Bologna. All concerts will feature Beethoven as unquestioned main character: the tour closes the Beethoven cycle, which began in September 2022 and celebrated all nine of his symphonies over three years.

The first concert series of this great celebratory journey will begin in April where, in the cities of Zurich (Tonhalle, April 15), Geneva (Victoria Hall, April 16), and Bern (Casino, April 17) Orchestra Mozart will perform Beethoven’s Symphonies No. 4 in B-flat Major Op. 60 and No. 6 in F Major Op. 68 “Pastoral”.

The second leg of the tour will feature Beethoven’s Symphonies No. 1 in C major Op. 21 and No. 7 in A major Op. 92. It will start in the city of Ferrara (June 12), where the Orchestra has had its artistic residency since 2022, will then continue in Milan (June 13), where the Orchestra will also perform Symphony No. 2, and will finally end in Bologna, on June 14, at the Orchestra’s beloved Teatro Auditorium Manzoni.

The third part of the tour, starting in September, will be even more exciting and will introduce the audience to the last two symphonies of the great German composer. Once again, the tour will begin in Ferrara (September 19), moving to Teatro Auditorium Manzoni in Bologna on September 20, and will finally end in Milan. Besides playing Symphony No. 8 in F major Op. 93, for this occasion, with great commitment of its entire organization and in collaboration with Teatro Comunale of Bologna, Daniele Gatti will conduct Orchestra Mozart, the Chorus of Teatro Comunale of Bologna and four internationally renowned soloists in the performance of Symphony No. 9 in D minor Op. 125 “Chorale”. This will be a very unique moment in the Orchestra’s legacy, not only because of its artistic importance but also because of the 200th anniversary of the first performance ever of said Symphony No. 9, which took place in Vienna on May 7, 1824.

Thanks to the April, June, and September tours, the audience will be able to enjoy symphonic music performed by an orchestra such as Orchestra Mozart, conducted by one of the most renowned international music directors.

The activities and concerts of Accademia Filarmonica are carried out with the contribution of the Ministry of Culture, the Emilia-Romagna Region, and in agreement with the Municipality of Bologna | Culture and Creativity Department, within the framework of Bologna UNESCO City of Music.

Finally, we would like to thank Alfasigma S.p.A. for its commitment to introducing more and more people to the beauty of music, starting with its own employees and their families, who eagerly participated in the guided tours that the Accademia organized for them, as well as in the chamber music concerts in Sala Mozart and the Orchestra Mozart’s concerts at Auditorium Manzoni.
