The Accademia Filarmonica of Bologna is pleased to introduce a new important artistic project: the Orchestra Mozart will perform the complete cycle of Beethoven's nine symphonies, directed by its Musical Director Daniele Gatti, playing five concerts within five years starting from September 2022.
To carry out the project, Associazione Ferrara Musica offered its artistic residency to Orchestra Mozart, which will be its guest for three years, until 2024.
The project will start at the end of next September, with the Orchestra playing Symphony No. 3, together with Richard Strauss’ Metamorphosen, at Teatro Comunale in Ferrara (28/09), at Teatro Verdi in Salerno (29/09), at Teatro Filarmonico in Verona (30/09), at Teatro Auditorium Manzoni in Bologna (1/10), and at Sala Verdi in the Conservatory of Milan (2/10).
In September 2023 the Orchestra will play two further concerts, performing Symphony No. 4 and 5 in the former, and Symphony No. 2 and 6 in the latter. The last two concerts will take place in September 2024. Symphony No. 1 and 7 will be played during the first one, then, to close this Beethoven cycle, Symphony No. 8 and 9 will be performed during the second. Besides Ferrara and Bologna, the complete series will be performed in Milano as well thanks to the collaboration for the whole project with the Società del Quartetto. The concerts will be held in several other cities in 2023 and 2024, as two tours are already being planned.
"When an orchestra like Orchestra Mozart and a director like Daniele Gatti, its Music Director, happen to be at the center of an artistic partnership such as the one born between Ferrara Musica and Accademia Filarmonica, important musical projects able to leave their mark can take place" – states Loris Azzaroni, President of Accademia Filarmonica di Bologna and of the Orchestra Mozart. "The complete cycle of Beethoven’s Symphonies, also made possible by the artistic residency generously offered by Ferrara Musica to the Mozart Orchestra, will not only be a culturally significant project, but also an opportunity to build a network among several important institutions, which I hope will be reinforced over time."
"From its foundation up to now, Orchestra Mozart has never performed the complete cycle of Beethoven's Symphonies", remarks Gastón Fournier-Facio, Art Advisor of Orchestra Mozart. "This is a major achievement for any instrumental ensemble, and getting the chance to accomplish it with a director like Daniele Gatti, who has delved into the greatest Austro-German repertoire like few others, will be a significant artistic journey, both for our orchestra and our audience."
