"A most illuminating experience"Giuseppe Russo -
His interest towards classical music was born when, as a child, he heard the local fanfare playing in the streets of his city. He immediately asked to join it and choose the horn as it was the only instrument available at that time. He now loves his instrument and would never change it. He perfectly remembers the time when the Orchestra Mozart played the 4th symphony of Beethoven as he was the one who began with the lowest note and Abbado had special attentions for him. He thinks that the Orchestra Mozart is one of the most important legacies of Abbado in Italy and that it would be a real pity to let it disappear.
Sicilian, he began his horn studies at the age of 9 under the guidance of Peter Anfuso, graduating in 2001 with honors under the guidance of Maestro Luciano L'Abbate. He attended numerous master classes with renowned teachers such as Froyodis Ree Wekre, Jonathan Williams, Alessio Allegrini, Radovan Vlatkovic, Luciano Giuliani. Since 2004 he is member of the Orchestra Mozart, founded and directed by Maestro Claudio Abbado. He is usually invited to play in important orchestras including the Mahler Chamber Orchestra, the Lucerne Festival Orchestra, Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, Teatro alla Scala in Milan, Teatro La Fenice in Venice, Teatro San Carlo in Naples, Sicilian Symphony Orchestra, Teatro Massimo of Palermo. In the Summer of 2003 he was selected to be part of the "EUYO" (European Youth Orchestra) under the guidance of V. Ashkenazy. He has played under the direction of prestigious conductors, including Claudio Abbado, Brüggen, Muti, Pinnock, Gardiner, Harding, Temirkanov, Korsten, Haitink. He has participated in numerous recordings for Deutsche Grammophon Archiv and Harmonia Mundi. In 2008 he started teachinh in the Al Kamandjati Foundation in Ramallah, Palestine. He is member of "Musicians for Human Rights".
